The Gastric Bypass (or Roux-Y Gastric Bypass) involves both a restrictive (small stomach pouch) and mal-absorptive component (the Bypass) resulting in a rapid weight loss. It is associated with a higher risk of complications (e.g. bleeding, leak, blood clots and internal hernia, etc.) as well as possible decreased absorption of your protein and essential vitamins and other nutrients. It is difficult to reverse. The Gastric Bypass operation has been the most common weight loss operation performed in the United States.
